Portraits, kitchens, tools, hands, routines, atmosphere, and the working rhythm of the business.
We combine photography and illustration to document the people, labor, rhythm, and processes behind restaurants, bakeries, cafés, takeaway counters, and kitchens in Eindhoven.
Highlight the people and invisible labor that make your business what it is.
From early mornings to late nights, we document the rhythm, rituals, and care in your craft.
Beautiful, authentic imagery and illustrations for your website, social media, print, and more.
Behind every dish is a rhythm most customers never witness: early mornings, repetition, preparation, pressure, mistakes, adjustments, and years of skill.
Your food is not just a product. It is a process, a memory, a system, and a story.
Independent food businesses often carry deep personal histories, but their everyday work disappears the moment the food is served.
The plate is only
the final moment.
The process is
the real story.
They are part of the streets people walk through, the smells they remember, the routines they build, and the places that make a neighborhood feel alive.
Many food businesses are built on highly skilled, physically repetitive, and time-intensive work that often becomes invisible once the food reaches the table.
We document that gap: the space between what people consume and what they rarely witness. Not through marketing language or polished narratives, but through close observation and visual interpretation.
These businesses often carry a strong personal rhythm, a distinct process, and a relationship to migration, memory, inheritance, or place.
This project began with a simple observation: people often enjoy the final dish without seeing the structure of labor behind it.
Before Served exists to make that structure visible — to show the hands, systems, routines, histories, and quiet expertise that shape the food before it is served.
We create visual story packages for independent food businesses.
Each project is built through time spent observing the preparation, routines, space, pace, and people.
The people behind the business — owners, makers, cooks, bakers, and workers.
The place the food happens — storefronts, kitchens, workstations, and neighborhood context.
Preparation, repetition, timing, adjustments, and the daily systems that make it work.
Finished dishes alongside illustrated recipes and ingredient breakdowns.
Dough, stock, cleaning, deliveries, setup, and the quiet hours before service.
Migration, family influence, previous professions, and the turning points that started it all.
What we create
Each project is built through time spent observing the business: the preparation, the routines, the space, the pace, and the people. Everything is created specifically for the business. Nothing template based.
Portraits, kitchens, tools, hands, routines, atmosphere, and the working rhythm of the business.
Recipes, gestures, ingredients, memory, and process translated into visual language.
A small printed publication that turns the story of the business into something collectible and lasting.
Visual material adapted for Instagram, websites, editorial features, press, and campaigns.
We're Payal and Tanya, two storytellers with different lenses and a shared love for food, people, and the beautiful details in between.
Photography records what is there.
Illustration interprets what unfolds around it.
The work exists somewhere between documentation and visual narrative.
Together, we help independent food businesses to be seen and remembered.
Through honest conversations and behind-the-scenes moments, we capture the people, places and processes that make our local food community so special.

We work with independent restaurants, bakeries, cafés, market vendors, and family-run food businesses in Eindhoven and beyond.
